DE Post 1 Sneaks Past Nanticoke Post 6 Patriots

By Roy Lamberton 07/13/2021, 11:15pm EDT

A 2 Out double makes the difference...

The Patriots took at 2-1 lead into the top of the 7th (and supposedly final) Inning, and with 2 outs, DE Post 1 tied the game after Christian Collmery doubled, then scored on Mason DeLuca's RBI single to left.

Post 6 couldn't score in the bottom of the 7th, and in the top of 8th, Ryan Reichard led off with a single, followed by Tommy Bosso's infield single. Both scored on Jack Szcerba's 2 RBI double to left and DE Post 1 was sitting on a 2 run lead. As darkness fell, Post 6 again couldn't mount an offense, and the game ended after 8 Innings in a DE Post 1 Win.

Pat Crawford got the win, pitching all 8 Innings, and allowing just 2 runs, on 5 hits, and striking out 8. Tyler Noell took the loss in relief of starter Wade Brooks, who only allowed 1 run on 5 hits with 4 K's. Noel finished allowing 3 runs on 6 hits, and also had 4 strikeouts. Jude Dean got the last Post 1 batter to fly out.

Jack Szcerba and Christian Comery both doubled for Post 1, Branden Widdowson and Wade Brooks doubled for Post 6. Widdowson also batted 2 for 4 in the game, Ryan Reichard of Post 1 did the same, also scoring twice. The Patriots also turned a 6-3 double play when Shortstop Ben Brown caught a fly ball in short left field, then threw out the baserunner who had tried to advance on the play.

It was a tough loss for the home team who is winless on the year, even though they have played some of the other teams in the league close. The Patriots now head on the road to Dover to finish a game that is tied 7-7, and then play the final regular season game with Fox Post 2.
