2019 Delaware State Championship

The 2019 Delaware American Legion Baseball State Championship

The Tournament was sponsored in 2019 by ALWS Champion, Delaware Post 1. It was held July 20-27 at Caravel Academy and St. Mark's High School (Remaining days).

Because there were only 8 teams in the Delaware League this year, the tournament was restricted to the top 6 teams in the league, playing the American Legion Baseball's approved 6 team, double elimination schedule.

Canal Post 25 is the Delaware State Champion for 2019

2019 Championship Round

Fox Post 2 takes on Canal Post 25 in a battle between two Southern Division teams.

Fox Post 2, the #2 Seed, features a balanced attack with good pitching and solid defense. In the tournament they defeated #3 seed Stahl and #1 Seed Delvets.

Canal Post 25, the #5 seed, has demonstrated power, and enough pitching to win. They lost early to Delaware Post 1, but then beat #3  Stahl, #4 DE Post 1, and #1 Delvets to earn their spot in the Championship Round.

Fox needs to win Game 10 to take the crown, Canal must beat Fox twice, in a double header on Friday.

Monday, July 22 - Day 3

Canal Post 25 at Stahl Post 30 - Opening game of the loser bracket. Winner plays Post 1 on Tuesday, Noon.

Canal scored first and carried a 2-1 lead into the 5th, where they added 2 runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings. Stahl got one back in the 6th, to make it 8-2. Canal then held off a last minute rally by Stahl as they scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th to make the final 8-6.

Stahl's Shaun Haut hit a 2 run home run in the losing cause, Jake Walls got the win.

Prior to the scheduled game, Delvets and DE Post 1 had to finish the final 3 innings of a slugfest, that resulted in a 14-13 win for Delvets, as they advance to the Winner's Bracket Final on Wednesday.

Fox Advances to Championship Game

Fox Post 2 jumped on DelVets early and then rode the arm of Dom Velasquez to win the Winner Bracket final and advance to the Championship round on Friday.

Wednesday, July 24 - Day 4

Aftger a day off the deal with almost 2" of rain, we've reached the Winner's Bracket Final - and the top two seeds are playing: #2 Walter L. Fox Post 2 will meet the #1 Seed, Delaware Veterans Post 1 in the late game at St. Mark's

But before that, two teams with 1 loss meet to see who stays in the hunt for the Championship.

Game 8: Canal Post 25 at DE Post 1

Its survival time for these 2 teams with 1 loss each.

The Game starts at Noon,

Game 7 - Fox Post 2 at The Delvets

The top 2 seeds meet in the Winner Bracket Championship game.

4 PM at St. Mark's

Thursday - July 25 - Semifinal Game 2

Today's single game at 4 PM will decide which team with 1 loss takes on Fox Post 2, who won the winner bracket on Wednesday, in the final series on Friday.

Today's game features several of the tournament's leading batters, so the challenge will be on the mound as both team's pitchers will be facing players who can drive the ball.

Day 2: Sunday July 21 at Caravel Academy

Game 4: DE Post 1 at Delvets Post 1

Another Winner Bracket Game:

Post 1 showed both their pitching strength and their power at the plate as they rocked Canal Post 25 Saturday. Expect Delvets to bring a little better pitching to the mound, but this should be an early test of this year's #1 Seed.

Delvets finally shuts down DE Post 1's attack and scores enough runs to win the 2 day slugfest.

Game 3: Stahl Post 30 at Fox Post 2

Winner Bracket game between the #3 and #2 Seeds - Fox Post 2 rocks Stahl, scoring 5 in the 2nd inning to take the lead for good.

One thing that stood out, Canal's starters, except for one player, all fielded 1.000 for the full tournament. The player who didn't started one less double play than he had errors. Not a bad tradeoff?
