Nanticoke Post 6 tops Milford

The Patriots have to hold on in the 7th to get the win (Updated)

The Nanticoke Post 6 Patriots batted around in the 1st inning scoring 4 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks to take an early lead off of Milford starting pitcher, Holden Bailey in a game at Milford Post 3 Tuesday. 

Milford answered in the bottom of the first, loading the bases with no outs, but Post 6's Jordan Haddaway was able to pitch out of the jam allowing just 1 run to score and getting 2 big strike outs to put an end to the inning.  

In the top of the 2nd inning, KCi Widdowson led off with a double to deep centerfield and after an Evan Nibblett walk, with 2 outs, Milford committed a costly error which allowed 2 runs to score, giving the Pats a 6-1 lead heading into the 3rd inning.

Haddaway took the ball and put up 3 consecutive shutdown innings, matching Milford reliever, Dylan Layton who gave up just 1 unearned run in 2.1 innings of work.  Haddaway ended the day with 6 K's after striking out the side in the 4th

The Patriots added a 7th run in the fifth, but Milford reliever, Bryan Bullock came on to induce a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning on the first pitch he threw.

Jared Kay came on in relief for Post 6 in the bottom of the 5th, and was 6 up 6 down before Milford mounted a 7th inning comeback.  Bullock kept the Patriots at bay in the 6th and 7th innings facing only 7 batters.  
 
In the 7th, Milford loaded the bases on 3 singles with no outs, and scored 3 runs on 4 hits and left the bases loaded to end the game.  Kay was able to get two strikeouts in the 7th to help put an end to the Milford rally. Dorin Emerick hit a booming fly ball with the bases loaded to dead center for the final out.
 

K-Ci Widdowson led the Patriots at the plate, hitting 3 for 5, including a double, and scoring 2 runs. Justin Gray, Tyler DeFord and Tyler Elzey also batted 2 for 4. Evan Nibblett drove in 2 runs for the Pats.

Milford's leadoff batter Will Geppert batted 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a double, and Ethan Watkinson had 3 RBI's. Milford also turned 2 double plays during the game.

Jordan Haddaway (73 Pitches) got the win, allowing only 1 Earned run and striking out 6. He was relieved in the 5th by Jared Kay (40) who added 4 strikeouts to the chart.

Holden Bailey (62 Pitches) took the loss. Dylan Layton (57) and Bryan Bullock (24) also appeared on the mound for Milford.
