Smyrna Post 14 Gets First Win, Defeats Nanticoke Post 6

Smyrna's early firepower too much for the Patriots

Post 14 Smyrna (1-1) bounced back from a loss Tuesday and scored 7 runs in the first 2 innings as they took advantage of Post 6 Starter Mitch Moyer's 5 Walks and 8 hits at a South Division game in Seaford, Thursday. The Patriots fall to 0-1.

In the first inning, Smyrna took advantage of 2 walks, followed by 2 doubles (by Mike Carrow and Andrew Rigby to take an early 4-0 lead.

The Patriots cut that lead in half when Vonnie Toppin walked, followed by Matt Warrington's double and then Trey Toppins first hit of the day, that drove in 2 runs.

Smyrna came back with 3 runs in the 2nd, as they took advantage of another 3 Moyer walks and some timely singles to make the score 7-2.

The Patriots tacked on a run in the third, and left the bases loaded in the  2nd before adding on run in the bottom of the 7th, but they couldn't overcome the early 7 run advantage.

Trey Toppin batted 3 for 4 for the Patriots with a double, 2 RBI's and a run scored. Matt Warrington also Doubled for the Pats.

Andrew Rigby batted 2 for 4 with a doubl and 3 RBIs. Hunter Barr batted 2 for 3 and scored once. Mike Carrow doubled and scored.

Brendan Davis got the win for Smyrna with a 105 pitch, 3 strikeout performance. Hunter Barr came in for the last 3 batters and allowed one hit, but got the final out on a play at the plate.

Moyer took the loss for the Patriots, Evan Niblett came in in relief and pitch 5 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out 7 while allowing 3 hits.
