State Tournament Expanded to the Top 8 Seeds

The League Expands the field

The Department of Delaware American Legion Baseball Committee has decided to expand the field of the 2018 State tournament to the top 8 teams based on league play.

"We looked at the schedule, and regardless if we play a six or eight team tournament, it would still take 5 days." according to State Chairman Roy Lamberton. "In addition, the top 2 seeds would not play a game until Monday of the tournament. "

"We decided under the new 7 Inning game format, we could play the entire tournament on one field, and all 8 teams would be in action during the first 2 days of the event. The idea is to send our best team to the Mid Atlantic Regional, and that requires a team to play at least 5 games."

The 2018 State Championship Tournament will start July 21st at Wilson Field in New Castle, Delaware. The host team is Stahl Post 30. (article edited July 2nd)

Canal Post 25 Shuts out Harrison Post 14

By Bill alexander 06/19/2018, 10:15pm EDT

Hines and Bond combine on a 3 hit shutout

After two scoreless innings among both teams, Post 25 put up two runs in the 3rd inning, then another one in the 6th inning.  These would be the only runs among both teams, in a defensive dual highlighted by 7 shutout innings pitched by Post 25’s combo of Jonathan Hines and Ryan Bond.

Post 14 loaded the bases twice, but did not convert any runs.  Their offense was led by a deep double to center field off the bat of Rigby in the top of the 5th, but Post 25’s defense held him from scoring.

About Smyrna Post 14

The newest team in the Delaware American Legion Baseball program, Smyrna Post 14 came from the very successful Post 14 sponsored Smyrna Big League Little League program.

After the dissolution of the Little League U19 program (Big League), the Post made a commitment to bring their formerly sponsored Big League team into the American Legion program.

The Smyrna team has been no stranger to post season play, several of their players were on the 2016 Big League team that played at their World Series.

The Smyrna Team recruits players from the Smyrna School District.
