Canal Holds on For A Win

By Bill Alexander 07/12/2018, 11:15pm EDT

Another Close Game Between Canal and Fox, decided in the 7th.

The third meeting between Fox and Canal were just like the first two, with the winner decided by only a run.

After Post 2’s Evan Harris scored a run in the bottom of the third off of Miguel Rivera’s single, Post 25 came back with three runs in the fifth, including a solo HR by Joey Lungen, followed by a double from Mason Keene, an RBI single by Alex Weber, and an RBI triple off that bat of Jack McDermott.  Fox answered back in the bottom of the fifth with four runs, highlighted by a three-run homer off the bat of Mikey Carrington.

Canal’s Joey Lungen hit another solo shot HR in the top of the sixth (his second on the night) to close the gap to one run. In the top of the seventh, Post 25 batters drew back to back walks, and runners moved to second and third base.  A deep sac fly to center field by Ryan Bond knocked in the tieing run for the second out of the inning.  A well-executed single by John Weglarz over the head of the the third baseman brought in the go-ahead run.  Post 25’s

Mason Keene closed out the bottom of the seventh, three up and three down, handing Canal the hard-fought victory between two evenly-matched teams.

State Tournament Expanded to the Top 8 Seeds

By rsl 06/30/2018, 10:00pm EDT

The League Expands the field

The Department of Delaware American Legion Baseball Committee has decided to expand the field of the 2018 State tournament to the top 8 teams based on league play.

"We looked at the schedule, and regardless if we play a six or eight team tournament, it would still take 5 days." according to State Chairman Roy Lamberton. "In addition, the top 2 seeds would not play a game until Monday of the tournament. "

"We decided under the new 7 Inning game format, we could play the entire tournament on one field, and all 8 teams would be in action during the first 2 days of the event. The idea is to send our best team to the Mid Atlantic Regional, and that requires a team to play at least 5 games."

The 2018 State Championship Tournament will start July 21st at Wilson Field in New Castle, Delaware. The host team is Stahl Post 30. (article edited July 2nd)

Combined 1 Hitter not enough to beat Fox Post 2

By rsl 06/27/2018, 10:30pm EDT

Post 6 Commits 3 errors, 3 Passed balls plus 5 walks in one inning as Fox scores 6.

Post 6 Patriot pitchers Jordan Haddaway and Tyler Heder combined to throw 1 hitter, but 3 errors, 3 passed balls and 6 walks, most in one inning, allowed Fox Post 2 to escape with a 7-1 win Wednesday night.

Joseph Winch doubled for Fox Post 2, Matt Warrington had a 2 bagger for the Patriots.

Winning Pitcher Tom Pomatto scattered 7 hits and allowed just one run in 5 2/3rd innings. Miguel Rivera relieved and gave up one hit. Haddaway took the loss for Post 6.

As one old Baseball Guy once said, "Errors will kill you"

And passed balls combined with walking in runs doesn't help either.
