Patriot's Big Inning Dooms Canal Post 25

By rsl 07/10/2018, 10:15pm EDT

It was a Pitcher's Duel except in the 6th

Tonight's game started out as a pitcher's duel between Nanticoke Post 6 Patriots, Dylan Layton, and Canal Post 25's Jarrett Weglarz. Good pitching and outstanding fielding play from both teams had the score tied 0-0 after 3, with only one hit between the two teams.

The Patriots got on the board first, as Justin Gray doubled in Mitch Moyer in the top of the 4th. Weglarz struggled a bit, giving up 3 walks before he finally struck out Jake Rogers with the bases loaded to end the inning, with the Patriots up 1-0.

Canal threatened in the bottom of the 4th, after 2 singles put runners on the bases, but two fly balls ended that threat. They then turned a double play to end the top of the 5th leaving the score still 1-0, Patriots.

The Patriots bats came alive in the 6th, as Moyer and Gray both singled and scored on Evan Niblett's double to left. Niblett scored on Dylan Niblett's RBI single, and with one out, scored on Jake Rogers double to left. The inning ended with the Patriots up 5-0.

Canal came back with a run in the 6th, as Jarrett Weglarz drove in his brother John, but Canal left 2 men stranded after a long fly ball out to right. In the 7th, Ryan Bond led off with a single, and scored on a Sacrifice Fly by John Weglarz.

Tyler Heder got the win in relief of starter Dylan Layton (4 Innings). Layton allowed only 2 hits, and 3 walks with 2 strikeouts. Heder allowed one run on one hit, had 2 strikeouts and a walk. Noah Covington pitched the last inning for the Patriots allowing 1 run on 1 hit and another walk. For Canal, Jarrett Weglarz took the loss, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits, with 6 strikeouts. Jarrett Wallace pitched the last inning, holding the Patriots hitless.

The Patriot win puts them firmly in 5th place in the seedings. Canal maintained their commanding lead in the South and their #2 Seed in the tournament, pending the results of games this week.

Nanticoke Post 6 Patriots sweep Stahl Post 30

By rsl 07/07/2018, 6:45pm EDT

A Pitchers Duel followed by a Slugfest highlights the Saturday DH

Game 1: Nanticoke Post 6 - 1, Stahl Post 30 - 0: The Nanticoke Post 6 Patriots' Jordan Haddaway pitched a complete game 1 hit shutout that was only spoiled by Stahl's Matt Hammond's double in the 7th Inning. Haddaway struck out 9 (vs 5 walks) and had a no-hitter going into the 7th. Both teams turned timely double plays as well.

Justin Gray's 480 foot solo Home Run to left center in the 4th Inning, was the only score in the game.

Game 2: Nanticoke Post 6 - 10, Stahl Post 30 - 7: The second game started very differently as both teams pounded out 6 runs each in the first 2 innings. Starters Dustin Sutton (Stahl) and Evan Niblett (Patriots) were rocked early, giving up a total of 7 extra base hits, but both found their groove in the 3rd with the score tied 6-6.

Evan Niblett only gave up one additional run, a Nate McVey home run in the 7th. Sutton allowed Post 6 to take the lead in the 4th on a 2 out walk and a couple of singles but kept the Patriots from expanding their lead until the 6th inning.

Post 6 bats exploded in the 6th as Matt Warrington, Dylan Layton and Dylan Niblett all doubled, combining with a 2 out walk to drive in 3 runs that proved to be the insurance needed.

Noah Covington came in to finish the last out of the game (Niblett had reached the Pitch Count Limit) and earned a save. See the Schedule Page stat recap for all the hits.
