State Tournament Expanded to the Top 8 Seeds

By rsl 06/30/2018, 10:00pm EDT

The League Expands the field

The Department of Delaware American Legion Baseball Committee has decided to expand the field of the 2018 State tournament to the top 8 teams based on league play.

"We looked at the schedule, and regardless if we play a six or eight team tournament, it would still take 5 days." according to State Chairman Roy Lamberton. "In addition, the top 2 seeds would not play a game until Monday of the tournament. "

"We decided under the new 7 Inning game format, we could play the entire tournament on one field, and all 8 teams would be in action during the first 2 days of the event. The idea is to send our best team to the Mid Atlantic Regional, and that requires a team to play at least 5 games."

The 2018 State Championship Tournament will start July 21st at Wilson Field in New Castle, Delaware. The host team is Stahl Post 30. (article edited July 2nd)

Delaware Post 1 Takes Back The Veterans Cup

By Brent Treml 06/17/2018, 7:00pm EDT

Post 1 takes a commanding lead in the first, and keeps Delvets off the scoreboard.

After a one year hiatus, the Veterans Cup trophy returned to Delaware Post 1 as they defeated Del Vets 11-0 in the 2018 Veterans Cup game at Frawley Stadium.

Chris Ludman pitched a 5 inning, complete game shutout, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 8. Kyle Walker, Austin Colmery, Marshall Awtry, and Jonathan Golebiowski all had multi-hit games for Post 1.

Cornog had both of Del Vets hits.

The 2018 Veteran's Cup Game is Sunday

Every year two American Legion Baseball teams from their respective Post 1's face off in a special game at Frawley Stadium.

The 8th annual Delaware Veteran's Cup game has been organized by Delaware's "other" Veterans Service Group, the Delaware Veterans (DelVets) as a way to honor all of the vets in Delaware AND to showcase their team, now in their 32nd year in the Delaware American Legion Baseball League.

Former DelVets Manager, the late Stan Witcowsky used to always say when talking about Delvets and American Legion Baseball; "We play to honor their service."

Sunday's game is the annual tribute to that ideal.

First Pitch is at 10 AM, Sunday, June 17th at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington.

More About Delaware Veterans Post 1

The Late Stan Witcowski managing Delvets.

Why Delvets Plays American Legion Baseball:

For more than 60 years DelVets has actively supported veterans and veterans affairs not only in the state of Delaware, but nationally.  Many of these activities have also been part of American Legion and VFW programs.

As part of this commitment to our fellow Vets, for more than 30 years, without fail, we have generously sponsored an American Legion baseball team.

DelVets has provided a dependable opportunity for players in its recruiting zone, through baseball, to represent not only veteran members of their post but, by extention, ALL veterans regardless of their branch of service or veteran's group post affiliation.

It has been, and will continue to be, our mission, through the selfless life lessons learned about teamwork and sportsmanship on the playing field, to also be mindful of the sacrifices (some the ultimate sacrifice) made by ALL veterans on our behalf.

"WE  PLAY TO HONOR THEIR SACRIFICE!"
